Nasal salt-water washes

Salt-water washes soothe the nose and remove reaction-causing pollens and other allergens.  Here is a good video on how to irrigate the nose.  This one shows using a Neti pot- but the saline can also be put in the nose with a baby bulb syringe, a turkey baster- anything that will pour a narrow stream of fluid into the nostril.

Here's the recipe we recommend:

1/2 teaspoon salt*
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
12 ounces warm^ tap water

*Don't use ordinary table salt that contains iodine, which can be irritating to the nose.  Use Kosher salt, pickling salt or sea salt, usually found in the baking and spice aisle of the grocery store.

^about body temperature will be the most comfortable for irrigating.

Use approximately half of this for each nostril.
